FAQ

Who We Are

Our Core Principles:

Loyalty– We will support you before, during and after a purchase.

Integrity– We won’t cut corners or sell substandard equipment.

Duty– It is our duty and responsibility to care for those with and around us, either with products or training or both.

Why 'Dark Angel'?

We chose the name, “Dark Angel”, because we believe that the combat medic, SWAT medic or “Joe Civilian” is or can be, just that, a Dark Angel.

They are a comforting figure, an angel, for their teammates when they are rendering, much needed emergency care to sustain life and keeping guard over them. However, they can also take on a different persona when their life, or the life of those under their care, is threatened. In that moment, they must place the mission first, neutralize the threat, whatever it may be, and become the Dark Angel that no enemy wants to face and fight.

We salute anyone who is, or has been, a Dark Angel and we also applaud those who receive the necessary training in order to use our products as you may now one day be called upon to become a Dark Angel.

What does ‘Vita Vel Nex’ mean?

It’s Latin and literally translated means, “Life or Death”. It shows the gravity of the situation which we may find ourselves in one day and the outcome depends solely on how we have trained and how we react.

Our Kits

I'd like to review or T&E the kit. How can I do that?

We’ll be happy to send you a copy of our T&E agreement and have you return it. Here’s a short version of it:

You, the tester/reviewer, agree to provide upon agreeing to, signing and returning this form to Dark Angel Medical, LLC, a valid, current credit card which will have an authorization hold placed on it in the amount of $169.95 plus applicable shipping and handling fees. Nothing will be charged on this card at that time. Once an approval code is received, we will, at our cost, ship the kit to you for review.

You, the tester/reviewer, have fourteen (14) calendar days from the receipt of the D.A.R.K. to review it and show it to your agency . If the kit has not been shipped and we have not received a shipping notification, tracking number, etc, at your cost, by the close of business on the 15th calendar day, the credit card will be charged for the full retail price of the D.A.R.K. plus applicable shipping and handling fees.

Contact us at: info@darkangelmedical.com for more info.

What do I do if my kit loses its seal?

The kit should maintain its seal in all environments and due to the fact that the nylon pouch is an additional protective layer. However, if the kit spontaneously loses it’s seal, contact us at: info@darkangelmedical.com and we’ll give you instructions on how to send it in and get it resealed.

A note of caution, repeatedly taking the insert in and out of the pouch can eventually lead to friction and rubbing on some of the higher points on the insert which could lead to a loss of the seal. Once the insert is placed in the pouch, leave it in place unless it’s needed or if the kit contents expire.

Also, inspecting the kit every quarter is a good practice to have. Something important to remember is that even if the kit loses its seal, the components are still packaged in their original packaging and are still protected from the elements.

Note: customer is responsible for shipping fees.

Do you offer discounts for Military, Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement and honorably discharged veterans?

Yes, we do. Contact us via our email: info@darkangelmedical.com for the specifics.

Can I practice with my kit?

The D.A.R.K. is designed to be utilized in emergency situations only. Think of it much like you would a fire alarm, where you have to “break the glass in case of emergency” or like a fire extinguisher, where you don’t pull the pin unless there is a fire. The key to successfully deploying and utilizing the kit is to understand how the components of the kit work and the correct manner in which to use them. To learn how to properly utilize all of the kit’s components, see the next question below or click on our “Training” page. A note of caution, do not practice with your "real world" tourniquet. Obtain a practice tourniquet and use that one and that one only for practice as you can degrade the integrity of your "real world" tourniquet if you practice with it.

I want to learn how to use the kit better. How can I learn?

No problem. We offer a 2 day “Direct Action Response Training” which covers a wide range of material plus hands-on practical application which teach you how to properly utilize the components of the D.A.R.K. Click on our “Training” page for more information. We also teach a 3 day class at SIG Sauer Academy which offers all of the above plus a day of live-fire scenarios. Just click on this link to learn more about the “Bullets and Bandages” course there. Feel free to contact us via email with training questions at: info@darkangelmedical.com

Preparation is the key to survival.

“A Med Kit? Why?”

Simple. It pushes the odds in our favor. Think of it like this. You wouldn’t, if you were responsible, purchase a firearm and just lock it up in the case and never train with it would you? It is our responsibility to obtain the proper training and familiarization on our chosen firearm in the event that our lives are threatened in order to survive the outcome, hopefully, intact.

That same principle applies to those who purchase a med kit. We shouldn’t even begin to approach the range or other daily activities without having it and knowing how to use it.
If you buy a first aid kit, get the proper training and learn how to utilize the kit to it’s fullest extent. Familiarize yourself with the products contained in the kit, learn what they do and how to best deploy them. If your kit comes with a tourniquet, buy an extra and learn how to stow it so that it’s readily accessible and learn how to apply it on every limb with your dominant and non-dominant hands. Apply it on your loved ones and have them apply it to you. That’s your responsibility.

Why are there just a few components in the kit?

Have you ever been in a hurry to find something in your house when you’re running late? Sure. We all have. Chances are, the item you were looking for was right under your nose and you didn’t see it for all the “clutter” around it. Same principle applies to our kit. We only pack what you need in the kit because when you need this kit, the situation is stressful enough without you having to dig through markers, tape, pens, pencils, notepads, casualty cards, surveyors tape…..well, you get the picture.

We want to give you a kit with the best components. We want it packaged in a simple, easy to carry, easy to deploy package/layout. When you have to deploy our kit, we want only what needs to be in the kit to save a life. In a “time-is-life” situation, we want to put the odds in your favor.

What’s the difference between QuikClot and ChitoGauze?

The hemostatic gauze we utilize in our kits have two different compounds; Chitosan (ChitoGauze) and Kaolin (QuikClot Combat Gauze and Bleeding Control Dressing). The QuikClot helps with the body's own clotting capability to assist in forming a clot while the Chitosan acts completely independent of the body’s “clotting cascade” and the gauze helps with the compression. The QuikClot  has absolutely no heat at all associated with it and won’t burn, while the Chitosan breaks down into glucosamine and causes no issues with folks who are allergic to shellfish, iodine or CT dye as the proteins (what we’re allergic to) are absent. It also works well with artificially “thinned” blood.
